Three unwise-men and woman stopped with drugs

The stop of a suspicious vehicle by Conyers Police led to the arrests of three Covington residents bearing methamphetamine, syringes, a digital scale and a glass pipe.

Around 1 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, a Conyers officer noticed a green Chrysler Pacifica with tinted windows driving out of a Conyers motel parking lot onto Dogwood Drive.

"I was traveling east bound and observed the vehicle stop and sit at the stop sign to Dogwood Drive until I had reached the traffic light at the intersection with Ga. Highway 138," wrote the reporting officer. The officer made a U-turn to follow the car and then the Pacifica turned quickly onto Green Street and then into the Holiday Inn parking lot.

A check on the car tag showed up as a stolen car out of Newton County.

The driver and passengers were asked to stick their hands out the windows.

The driver, later identified as Crystal Elizabeth Ostrander, 27, of Covington, told officers she had contraband in her pants. A black plastic box, with a green top and electrical tape, and three unused syringes were found in her pants. The box contained plastic baggies of suspected crystal methamphetamine, 11 Xanax bars and suspected marijuana.

The back seat driver's side passenger, identified as Jason Heath Mitchell, 37, of Covington, was found with a digital scale.

A glass pipe with meth residue was found under the seat of Bobby Shane Strange, 35, of Covington, who was sitting in the back passenger side.

After the suspects were brought to the Rockdale County jail, more methamphetamine was found in Ostrander's bra.

The car's owner told investigators that Ostrander knew the car was reported stolen. "Newton County (law enforcement) had talked to Ostrander by telephone and advised her of the vehicle being reported stolen if she did not return it." The car was reported stolen Dec. 25.

Ostrander was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, sale, distribution of possession of dangerous drugs, possession of a schedule I controlled substance, possession of drug related objects and theft by receiving stolen property.

Mitchell was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, and possession and use of drug related objects.

Strange was charged with possession and use of drug related objects.
