Newton to hold prayer breakfast

The Newton County community’s annual legislative prayer breakfast will be held on Friday, Jan. 10, and this year will move to First Baptist Church in Covington from its previous site, the County Recreation facilities.

The annual event, which typically attracts about 175 local community members and political leaders, will begin at 7 a.m. with a light breakfast and coffee meet-and-greet. The program will begin at 8 a.m. The popular annual kickoff to the New Year is sponsored by the Covington Rotary and Kiwanis clubs. It is free to attend.

The speaker this year will be Michael Thurmond, superintendent of DeKalb county schools.

Eric Lee of Springfield Baptist will give the opening prayer and Dr. Cody McNutt of First Baptist Church will conclude.

All local elected officials are invited, and the event is open to the community.
