Obituary

Mr. Willie Davis, 74 of Covington, Georgia, returned home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 16, 2013. Willie leaves his high school sweetheart, Janie Lois Flanigan, whom he joined in holy matrimony on July 11, 1964. Willie, the fourth of seven children, was born on March 8, 1939 to the late Cleo Maddox and John Davis, Sr. He was preceded in death by his brothers Woodow Davis and John Davis, Jr. and his sister, Betty Thomas. Willie was educated in the Newton County School System. Willie loved the Lord. During early adulthood he was baptized and joined Bethlehem Baptist Church. He faithfully served in the Gospel Mitchell Choir and Male Chorus. He later joinedWhite's Chapel United Methodist Church where he sang in the White's Chapel Choir for Christ and Male Chorus. Willie's love of worship through praise in song extended to his participation in the Turner Lakes Voices.

Willie loved to work. He had an impeccable work ethnic. For 19 years he worked for Ace Hardware. Following his career at Ace Hardware, he worked for the Newton County School System where he retired after 10 years of service. Willie also worked for People's Pharmacy where he delivered medications  to patients and the Porterdale Mill.

Willie loved Janie. Second only to his love for the Lord was his wife and his family. He was a loving husband and provider; he was a father figure to his many nieces and nephews. Willie had an infectious smile and a laugh all his own. To some he displayed a quiet spirit,to those who knew him they will never forget his sense of humor, his hospitality, his generosity and his devotion to his faith, his family and Janie. He had a caring, wise and watchful eye which now peers at us from above.

Willie loved life. Forever cherishing his memory are his totally committed and loving wife, Janie Lois Davis, two sisters, Ruth Cooper and Mae Frances Shannon, one brother, Charles Davis, sister-in-law, Ida S. Davis, nieces, nephews, cousin and a host of family and friends. We are saddened by our earthly loss, but joyous in his heavenly gain.
