The Eastside Eagles dropped a 47-19 road decision to Monroe Area Friday night, closing their season with a 5-5 overall record.

A storm was brewing Friday night in Monroe, and unfortunately for the Eastside, the Eagles were on course for a Purple Hurricane.

While gale force winds and pouring rain were absent, the Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes left a path of destruction at their feet, rushing for 486 yards and seven touchdowns en route to a 47-19 region victory over Eastside.

The win sealed Monroe Area's first perfect 10-0 season in school history, while the Eagles ended their season 5-5 overall.

Eastside quarterback Austin Holloway threw for 151 yards and three touchdowns, but also threw three interceptions that the Purple Hurricanes converted into 21 points.

Monroe Area running back Kwan Brooks carried the ball 17 times for 192 yards and three scores, decimating the Eagles with his speed for 192 yards in the first half.

The Purple Hurricanes' team speed proved too much for Eastside, as four Monroe Area players ran for over 75 yards in the win.

"They have a good football team," Eastside coach Rick Hurst said. "Right now, we have a young football team. It's tough coming in here with guys on the bench who can't play because they are hurt. Not making excuses, but you need everyone healthy to beat a team like this.

"I thought our kids played hard and we played well offensively, but we turned it over and gave them a short field," he said.

Monroe Area stormed out to a 13-0 advantage behind back-to-back scores from Brooks, but Holloway answerd with a 26-yard screen pass that Jomandi Smith turned into a touchdown. Jake Shelton added the extra point, cutting the Purple Hurricanes' lead to 13-7 with 2:54 to go in the first quarter.

The Purple Hurricanes extended their lead after Holloway's first interception in the second quarter, converting the turnover into points on a 22-yard touchdown run from quarterback Stanton Truitt. Monroe Area went into the half with a 27-6 lead, reaching the end zone on a 5-yard touchdown run from Junior Reed.

Eastside opened the second half with a 61-yard scoring drive, culminating with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Holloway to Eli Galloway. But, Monroe Area responded with three consecutive scores, including touchdown runs from Truitt, Brooks and wideout Michael Gallup.

Holloway found the end zone for the third time on the night with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Josh Sims with 3:20 left in the contest for the 47-19 final.
