Miracle League says ‘thanks’

Dear editor,

What an amazing community we are all so fortunate to call "home"… comprised of big-hearted volunteers willing to give up a few hours on a chilly Saturday!

Over 200 people of all ages came out on a very chilly day to help build the first universally-accessible playground at City Pond Park. The playground is being built as part of the Miracle League Complex currently under construction at City Pond.

Volunteers from local businesses (C.R. Bard, H.B. Fuller, SRG, Snapping Shoals EMC, Resurgens Orthopedics), several civic organizations (Kiwanis, Rotary and Lions), Girl Scout troops, Newton High School athletes and cheerleaders, many Miracle League parents and athletes, Oxford College students, and many, many more came out to lend a hand.

What an amazing sight to see so many individuals from so many walks of life working together to serve the special-needs children of our community. Special thanks to Waffle House, Central Community Church and their REACH Outlet, Publix Supermarkets, Keep Covington/Newton Beautiful, Coca-Cola and the Newton County Special Olympics Equestrian Team for helping to provide breakfast, lunch, snacks and beverages throughout the day.

To all who participated, a very sincere THANK YOU!

Tamara Richardson
