Good news

Last week, Chamber President Hunter Hall appeared before Covington City Council to present a plan to enhance the promotion of tourism here.

One of the bright spots in this dire economic downturn through which we have been struggling has been the growth of tourism.

If you missed the story, it can be read at covnews.com.

Hall told the council that tourism officials are working to fully exploit the film and TV niche that Covington has developed.

Tourism falls under the Chamber umbrella, and Main Street program is expected to follow soon. This will allow for an organized and single-shot approach to marketing the city. The approach to date has been more of a “shotgun” effort, according to Hall.

We endorse fully the Chamber’s efforts to increase the tourism dollars that come into our community. Those dollars will produce more tax revenue, which will help us grow the infrastructure of the city and the county, which will in turn attract more businesses and families to Covington and Newton County.
