Online meeting leads to armed robbery

Deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office are searching for four men and a woman who reportedly robbed a man who fled in nothing but his boxer shorts to seek assistance early Wednesday morning.

It all started Tuesday, when the 23-year-old victim sent a "friend" request to a female on Facebook. After she accepted, the two began chatting and made plans to meet at her home, which she said was in the Settler’s Grove neighborhood, around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. She reportedly said she would be waiting in the driveway for him.

According to NCSO Public Information Officer Cortney Morrison, the victim pulled onto the street and saw a thin, light-skinned black female wearing a flowered dress, standing in a driveway waiting for him. He reportedly told deputies that he got out of his vehicle and began talking to the woman when four men came out from behind the house.

The four men were all wearing black camo jackets and had masks over their faces.

The victim reportedly told deputies that he felt a gun pressed against the back of his head, and that another man had a shotgun.

One of them told him to disrobe, which he did, and the group took his cellphone, wallet and jewelry. When they left, the victim got in his car and drove to the QuikTrip store across the street and asked a woman there to call authorities for him.

Authorities attempted to look at the female’s Facebook page, but she had deleted it.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the NCSO at 678-625-1400 or online at www.newtonsheriffga.org. All tips can be given anonymously.
