Wayward woman's friend charged

A Covington woman was arrested early Monday morning after police found her reportedly driving intoxicated, on her way home, she said, from dropping off a friend who was cheating on her husband.

Officers from the Covington Police Department responded to an accident on U.S. Highway 278 and, according to reports, when they spoke with Monique Clark, one of the drivers involved, they immediately noticed a smell of alcohol on her, that she was unsteady on her feet, and that her eyes were bloodshot.

When asked, Clark allegedly told officers that she had not been drinking that evening, but that she had just dropped off her friend — who was cheating on her husband — and was heading home to check on her children.

She reportedly agreed to perform field sobriety tests when asked, and performed poorly on each of them, according to reports. She initially refused a breath test, but once at the jail asked why they had not given her one, and consented to it.

Clark’s alcohol level came back at .060, reports said. The legal limit in the state of Georgia is .08.

She was charged with DUI less safe and no proof of insurance.

Be on the lookout

Deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office are looking for a man who allegedly pulled a gun on a man at Arbor Lake Apartments Tuesday evening.

According to reports, a man called police and told them that another man that he occasionally "hangs around" with had pulled up near his apartment in a silver vehicle with two other males in the car. The man who summoned deputies reportedly told them that he felt uncomfortable because he didn’t know the man in the back seat.

He said when he started backing away from the vehicle, the man in the back seat started shooting at him.
