Armed robbery suspects sought

Deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office are searching for an unknown man who reportedly robbed another man at gunpoint Friday afternoon.

The victim was stopped at the intersection of Greenway Drive and Lantana Way when a man wearing a mask from a popular movie (but painted gold) reportedly approached his car and pointed a pistol at the victim, reportedly saying "empty your pockets," and chambering a round, according to NCSO Public Information Officer Cortney Morrison.

The victim gave the robber his cell phone — the only thing in his pockets at the time — and the masked bandit ran off. The victim went to a friend’s house and had someone call 911 for him. There were no other witnesses to the robbery.

Test drive takes bad turn

Investigators from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office have warrants out for the arrest of 50-year-old Jacque Bias, who reportedly pointed a pistol at an auto shop employee while test-driving his vehicle after repairs.

Bias allegedly dropped his car off at Mr. Transmission, located on U.S. Highway 278, a few weeks ago to get it fixed. He was contacted Monday afternoon to come and pick up his car.

According to NCSO Public Information Officer Cortney Morrison, when Bias arrived, he said he wanted to test drive his vehicle before paying for it. The owner reportedly told him that he could test drive his vehicle, but he had to take a Mr. Transmission employee with him, and Bias agreed.

When Bias and the employee got on Interstate 20, Bias reportedly pulled the car over, pulled a handgun on the employee and said, "Get out or I’ll shoot you." The employee exited the car, and Bias took off. Warrants have been taken out against Bias for armed robbery and theft of services.

Anyone with information in either armed robbery case is asked to contact the NCSO at 678-625-1400 or online at www.newtonsheriffga.org. All tips can be given anonymously.
