NSO hosts America's Night Out

The Ellington community is signed up to participate locally in the annual America’s Night Out Against Crime, celebrated for the last three decades during the month of August.

The event will take place on Tuesday, beginning at 5 p.m.

Other neighborhoods are urged to contact the Newton County Sheriff’s Office to participate in the outreach program. The NCSO will provide speakers and make presentations about safety issues that are of concern for each neighborhood.

"Basically, it’s for the community to take a stand against crime and let criminals know they are not going to tolerate it, nor is the Sheriff’s Office going to tolerate it. It’s a time for us to come together and make a statement," NCSO Public Information Officer Cortney Morrison said.

America’s Night Out Against Crime, is celebrated in all 50 states, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide, according to the event’s website, natw.org.

The program is designed to increase awareness of programs offered by law enforcement and anti-crime efforts as well as increase "neighborhood spirit."

Any neighborhood interested in participating, along with Ellington, is urged to contact the NCSO’s Community Outreach Division at sjohnson@newtonsheriffga.org.
