The Connexion Church team practices for the grand opening weekend.

One of the newest churches on Salem Road, Connexion Church, is inviting the community to a Back to School Bash and school supply giveaway Saturday as part of the church's Grand Opening weekend.

The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the activity field at Peachtree Academy, where the new church will also celebrate its official grand opening on Sunday. The Back to School Bash will feature inflatables, carnival games, food and a DJ, and the event is free for all ages.

"We have been working over the past six months through preview services, small group bible study, community outreach, and weekly worship services to prepare for our grand opening," Connexion Church lead pastor Andrew Covington said.

"Our worship style is different, it's not traditional or contemporary. We are trying intentionally to be different and look like where we are at - the Salem Road, Conyers and Covington areas that have changed a lot in the last decade or so."

Connexion Church is a United Methodist Church with a casual atmosphere, upbeat music and relevant message, according to Covington, who served as associate pastor of Conyers Methodist Church for six years before Connexion Church was formed last year. "The entire month August filled with special services in celebration of opening our doors to our community. Whether you are looking for a new church or just want to join us for the celebration, everybody is welcome."

Services start at 11 a.m. Sunday following a coffee and doughnut social beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Peachtree Academy located off Salem Road at 1801 Ellington Road. For more information visit www.ConnexionChurchUMC.org.
