Weekly fishing reports beginning July 4

According to havefunfishing.com, Lake Oconee is full and 80-82 degrees.

Bass fishing has been good, and gets better when Georgia Power is pulling water or pumping it back. There is an early to late top water bite, best caught with a ½ ounce Hart buzz bait in the white/chart color being sure to fish around the rock sea walls and rip rap around the lake.

During the da fish brush piles in 15-20 feet of water with Texas rig Zoom finesse worm in the green pumpkin or watermelon colors or 10-pound test Trilene line. Working the long points on the main lake with a Carolina rigged finesse in the same colors will also attract a good number of fish.

Hybrids are schooling early and late in the day all over the lake. Have a popping cork with a fly on a 24-inch leader ready, and use a 17-pound test leader to help keep the fly from getting hooked around the cork. A ¼ ounce Rat L Trap will also work very well with these schooling fish. During the day live shad fishing around the dam on the underwater humps in 20 feet of water will also draw a few bites.

According to havefunfishing.com, Lake Sinclair is full, 87 degrees and rivers are stained with the lower end clearing up.

Bass fishing has been good, with a big mayfly hatch near Sinclair Marina cove recently for a great top water bite.

A Main Event prop bait works well around mayflies, and a bream colored prop bait works best. A Lobina Lures Rico Popper is also a good bait to throw around mayflies. When the sun gets up and the top water bite slows, fish the seawalls and overhangs with a brown Buckeye Mop Jig with a Zman chunk trailer. This will get a few more quality bites throughout the day.

Along with fishing the mayflies, brush piles in 10-15 feet of water with a Texas rigged Ol’ Monster worm or a Shaky Head Zman Finesse worm works well. Green pumpkin and red bug colors are both catching fish. When Georgia Power is moving water, check the end of points and humps with a Strike King 6xd crank bait in the chartreuse sexy shad color.

According to havefunfishing.com, Jackson Lake is down 2.4 feet, clear and 83 degrees.

Bass fishing has been barely fair and the lake is up and stained all around. There is a fair top water bite early each day and then the bite goes to the docks.

The Lunker Lure all white buzz bait or Bang A Lures in silver and black back on banks and woods has been working, cast into the shallow banks with a Rattlin’ Rouge in the shad or beam color. Small Fat Free shad and pearl white shallow crank baits are fair.

Rig Culprit worms in red shad or black shad u tails on a spinning rod and skip them under the docks and get the baits a little deeper and work them very slowly. Pop R’s in shad and bream colors are fair.
