Factory Shoals

Any time a young person has his or her life cut short, it’s a tragedy.

Last week, a young man lost his life at Factory Shoals Recreation Park. Since his drowning, some have raised the question of whether swimming should be banned at the park.

We don’t agree that it should be, but we do agree that better safety measures could be adopted.

Because of the changing water flow and currents in the Alcovy River, there should be no swimming allowed past a certain point, and children under a certain age should have to wear some type of flotation advice.

There also could be better signs warning people of the dangers of the river and when it might be more dangerous.

Factory Shoals is a beautiful park. If the people who use it make sure that they use good, common sense, the danger in using its clean waters for recreation will be minimized.
