Middle-schoolers enjoy theme camp

Students in seventh and eighth grades participated in hands-on activities as they gained knowledge about different career fields during a Summer Theme Camp hosted by the Newton College and Career Academy.

The two-week camp, held June 10-13 and June 17-20, gave students the opportunity to complete projects in graphic arts, business and computer science, engineering, cosmetology, career planning, law enforcement, marketing and manufacturing.

In the graphic arts class, student were taught about graphic design as they created notepads, camp T-shirts, and learned how to design several other items.

Business and computer science students learned about computer hardware and how to create Excel charts and applications. And in the web design course, students learned how to tackle photos and graphics in Photoshop.

Though this was the first year NCCA held the theme camps, Michelle Smith with the Newton College and Career Academy said the school hopes to continue offering them in the future.
