The Oaks Golf Course’s new golf professional Lisa Vaught answered some questions with The Covington News about what she can bring to the course and Newton County.

CN: How long have you been a pro and what is your golf experience?
LV: I started in 1997 working as an apprentice at Green Meadow Country Club in Alcoa, Tenn. I played numerous amateur tournaments and some Futures Tour events.

CN: When did you get involved in the game and what do you enjoy most about golf?
LV: My father played and when I was a senior in high school, I ask my father (who played periodically) to learn to play. I enjoy the challenge of the game.

CN: What is your vision for what you can bring to The Oaks?
LV: To grow the junior program, bring more women to the course and increase membership.

CN: Why do you enjoy instructing people in golf?
LV: I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life. Getting to watch them improve and seeing the enthusiasm of making a first par or achieving goals.

CN: What do you feel the excitement, or adversity is for a female pro?
LV: The golf business is a male world and makes finding the facility that will embrace a female more difficult. The excitement is watching the reaction of people when someone calls to speak to the pro and find out it is a female.

CN: What made you choose The Oaks as your next stop?
LV: After talking to Dick Schulz, I liked the direction he wants to take The Oaks.

CN: How do you like the Covington, Newton area so far?
LV: It’s good. I like the small town feel and the people I have met are very welcoming.
