JROTC annual awards

The annual JROTC awards ceremony was held at the Golden Fleece Masonic Lodge No. 6, March 28.

East Side Scottish Rite President Joel Knight was happy with the attendance and said, "We are proud of our community, proud of our students in our high schools and look forward each year to recognizing outstanding JROTC cadets on the east side of Atlanta."

The awards ceremony was attended by Albert F. Garner, 33rd, personal rep. to SGIG of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Atlanta; Joseph P. Suttles, 33rd, PGM; Lt. Col. Nicolette J. Wheeler, director of Fulton County JROTC; Lt. Col. Kurt P. Felpel, University of Georgia; 2nd Lt. Jenicia McFadden, Georgia Tech University; and Lt. General Glenn Spears, Ret. Air Force serving as guest speaker and presenter.

The award winners were chosen for the Outstanding Achievements and Essays:

• Brendan Brown – Newton High School

• Karyem Miller – Salem High School

• Mitch Clemens – Heritage High School

• Quantavis Garcia – Rockdale County High School

• Dewayne Rink – Loganville High School

• Margaret Mason – Monroe Area High School

• Ryan Lambert – Walnut Grove High School

• Dakota McQuiston – Social Circle High School

• Dillon Riedlinger – Morgan County High School.

All the above rewards recipients received medals and award certificates from Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, letters of achievement from Lt. Governor Casey Cagle and letters of achievement from Secretary of State Brian P.

All cadets received scholarships from the East Side Scottish Rite Association with Cadet Dillon Riedlinger of Morgan County High School receiving the Cadet of Year from the East Side Scottish Rite Association and a $1,000 scholarship.

East Side Scottish Rite President Robert Wing closed the ceremony and said, "We are proud of our country, community and most especially, the women and men who serve us each and every day by serving in the military and we look forward to next year.
