Local dancer seeks help for NYC competition

/

At just 10 years old, Covington native Abby Boivin is headed to New York City to pursue her dance dreams.

Boivin trains with Jaime Robtison at Mainstream Dance Studio and has performed as a company member for Covington Regional Ballet Company of the Arts Association in Newton County.

Robtison selected Boivin to compete in the semi-final competition of the Youth America Grand Prix in Tampa, Fla., in January. Boivin competed in the 9-11 year old classical group against 58 other contestants. She placed in the top 12 and had a score of 95 or above, which earned her an invitation to New York for the world finals.

“This is an opportunity for me to take classes and dance in front of many professionals in the classical ballet and dance industry,” Boivin said. “I need to raise $4,000 to help cover the cost for my trip. Your sponsorship will help me fly with my dance teacher Jaime Robtison to New York, pay for my tuition, and room/board. Any amount you can contribute will help me get there and pursue my dream of dancing in New York City.”

The event will take place April 12-17. Boivin, her family and her instructor are asking the community for help to raise enough money for the trip.

“We have made four levels for sponsorship, Platinum $250, Gold $100, Silver $50, and Bronze $25,” Boivin said. “I am working on a dance bag that will have my Platinum and Gold Sponsors listed on it. I will carry this bag with me to New York for the competition. Again, any amount will help me with the cost of the trip. No gift is too small.”

To make a donation, email Abby’s father Mark Boivin at markboivin@alltrafficdata.net or call Mainstream Dance.
Robtison said she is confident in her student’s abilities and is looking forward to helping her at the next level.

“It takes tremendous focus, dedication, passion and physical strength to be a classically trained dancer, and Abby Boivin has all of these qualities and more,” Robtison said.
