Chase Cain bike ride rescheduled

Bikers who were prepared to cycle for a cause Saturday during the Chase Cain Memorial Foundation Bike Ride will have to wait until April 27, after the event was postponed due to rain.

The ninth annual event will begin at 9 a.m., with registration and then bikers will be escorted by police leaving Sharp Gymnasium, across from the Covington Y on Newton Drive at 10 a.m., covering a 55-mile course.

Bike registration fees are $20 per bike. Additional riders are asked to make a donation. Breakfast will be provided at the event, and a raffle will follow the bike ride.

All proceeds raised at the bike ride go to the Memorial Foundation’s scholarship fund. The foundation awards scholarships annually to seniors from the three high schools in Newton County and one scholarship to a student in private and home schools.

The foundation, which was founded in 2005, is in memory of Chase Cain, who died in an automobile crash months after he graduated from Eastside High School in 2004.

“We do a lot to different organizations and camps and anything that’s leadership development for kids,” event organizer Austin Aldridge said.
