Small businesses tax strategy webinar

Small business professionals can learn more about filing their taxes during a webinar hosted by the Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce next month.

Tax Strategy for Small Businesses will be held Tuesday, April 16 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Newton County Fire Service office, located at 4136 A U.S. Highway 278.

The April webinar will consist of a panel of speakers providing an overview of federal changes for 2013, common tax misconceptions and common errors and discuss how to fix them.

Lisa Baker, the director of membership with the chamber, said the event is $15 for anyone interested in attending. There is no cost for chamber of commerce members. Baker explained how the webinar would work.

“We are working with the Georgia GACCE (Georgia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives), which is pretty much the Georgia Chamber, and we’re partnering with them, and they are putting on a yearlong series of educational webinars and we signed up to participate,” Baker said.

“Every two months they come out with a different focus. [April] is tax strategies for small businesses. It’s really for businesses that are 25 and under as far as employees,” she said.

“It’s going to focus on the tax strategies, deductions, credits for small businesses and Georgia can begin implementing — obviously since the 15th will be have come and gone by then — they can take advantage of [the credits] for the rest of 2013.”

Baker said the chamber loves to help out its businesses, especially the small businesses by providing educational opportunities and said the webinar would be a chance for the chamber to do so.

“I’ve already had businesses contacting me to attend the seminar,” Baker said. “Usually it takes a week or two to get responses.”

Participants of the event are asked to bring their own lunch as they watch the hour long webinar.

Baker said usually after a few weeks once the webinar is over, the Georgia Chamber will send the Newton chamber the information that was presented during the webinar, which she said she will send out specifically to the people who attended the event.
