Clean up the town

ean up and spruce up the entrances to Newton County so that visitors’ first impression of the community is a positive one. You, as a member of the community, can actually help with that.

The annual Great American Cleanup is Saturday, and although registration has ended, walk-up participants are more than welcome to come out and help. Head out to LongHorn Steakhouse at 9 a.m. to get more details and find out where you can help out.

As of Tuesday, 707 people had registered, but the event’s organizers — the staff at Keep Covington-Newton Beautiful — want to see as many people as possible come out and help clean up their community.

Local residents will be out and about on roads all across the county, picking up trash and litter, and making the area a little more scenic for everyone. So pitch in and help take care of the home you love.
