Daylight saving time this Sunday

/

Downtown Covington shoppers can you the historic courthouse as a way to check the time.

The time change for daylight saving time will occur Sunday, March 10, at 2 a.m. This time was chosen because it was decided this was the least disruptive time of day. We change our clocks to save money on energy due to more natural light. However, studies have shown these savings to be nominal because people turn their lights on early in the morning.

Today, we’ve all but given up the wristwatch for a more convenient approach with computers, tablets and phones. You can still find the big clocks atop a city courthouse or maybe a LED clock on the sign at the bank. Regardless of how you keep track of your time, don’t forget to spring forward one hour Saturday night before you go to bed, so we can prepare for the days to last longer and the nights to get warmer.
