NCSS kindergarten round-up dates announced

Newton County School System will hold its annual Kindergarten Round-Up during the week of March 18-21.

Children must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2013 (child must have been born on or before Sept. 1, 2008) to register for the 2013-2014 school year.

Parents should bring their prospective kindergarten student with them to the roundup so teachers can conduct screenings with the children.

At the time of registration, parents must provide their child’s social security card (if no card is available, a waiver may be signed at the time of registration), certified birth certificate, immunization record form No. 3231, and hearing, vision and dental screening record form No. 3300. If needed, hearing and vision screening testing will be available at the schools at the time of registration.

In addition, parents must also provide two proofs of residence as follows—one from each of these two categories:

Category 1: Utility bill with name and address (only garbage, electric, water, or gas will be accepted) and, Category 2: Current lease, rental agreement, or current mortgage statement from the purchase of a home.

Should the child not live with one or both parents, guardianship or custody documents will be required.

Each of the school system’s elementary schools have designated one day during the week for kindergarten registration.

School registration dates are as follows:

Middle Ridge, Flint Hill and Porterdale Monday, March 18

East Newton, Rocky Plains and Oak Hill Tuesday, March 19

Live Oak, Mansfield, South Salem and Fairview Wednesday, March 20
