Newton deputy attends conference

Newton County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jerry Carter recently attended the 2013 annual winter training conference sponsored by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.

The winter training conference was held at the Classic Center in Athens from Feb. 11–13 and covered a variety of topics such as: “News Media: Friend, Foe and Why Both are Important,” “Security in Our Schools,” “Update on the Georgia Open Records Act,” “Executive Decision in Asset Forfeiture” and “Leading with Honor in Tough Times: Leadership Lessons from the Hanoi Hilton.”

Carter was among more than 326 heads of law enforcement agencies attending the conference. Chief J. Frank Waits, of the Vidalia Police Department and president of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, encouraged the members to “take the knowledge learned from this conference and apply it for the benefit of your community, governing officials and your agency.”

The conference is part of the continuing education and training that all law enforcement officials take in some fashion.
