Covington man killed in Wed. accident

One man has been killed in the accident that blocked traffic on Clark and West streets around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.

According to an email from Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright, 44-year-old Johnny Delmar of Covington was killed.

Delmar was operating a 1998 Kawasaki ZXE motorcycle northbound on West Street approaching Clark Street. A 2010 Dodge Caliber being driven by Irene Stanford, age 65, from Covington was on West Street at Clark facing south. The driver of the Dodge began to turn left and stopped partially in the northbound lane of West Street after seeing the motorcycle approaching at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle and the Dodge never made contact.

Delmar was transported to Newton Medical Center and later flown to Atlanta Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Stanford was not injured. The posted speed limit there is 35 miles per hour. The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is conducting the follow-up investigation.
