Mrs. Carrie Helen Rand of Covington died on Dec. 12, at Rockdale Medical Center. She was born in 1929 in Enfield, N.C., the daughter of Johnny and Elizabeth Battle Richardson. Mrs. Rand was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a retired employee of Sisters of Charity Hospital, Buffalo, N.Y., and was an active member of Mount Olive Baptist Church of Buffalo. She loved to travel and watch and old black and white western movies.

Mrs. Rand was a strong woman who worked many jobs to help pay the rent and put food on the table. She was ahead of the women's right to work movement; she was part of the women had to work movement. She was a soft touch in the middle of five boys and a strong but good dad.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father Elizabeth and Johnny Richardson; sisters Annie R. Jones, Dorothy Livingston, Mary Simpson, Ruth Mitchell; and brothers Johnny Richardson, Herman Richardson, Luther Richardson and William A. Richardson.

Surviving are husband of 61 years Tommie Rand Sr.; daughter Carolyn Brown of Covington; sons and daughters-in-law Nathaniel and Sarka Rand of Mukilteo, Wash.; Tommy Jr. and Linda Rand of Buffalo, N.Y.; Bobby and Marceda Rand of Loganville; sons Johnny Rand of Covington; Carlton Rand of Buffalo, N.Y.; sisters Viola (Eva May) Pittman of Enfield, N.C.; Victoria Killett of Brooklyn, N.Y.; granddaughters Tabetha, Amanda, Trina, Tonya, Queena, Toneshis, Nadia, Kennedy, Cebrina, Carlese and Kaelee; and grandsons Joseph, Damond, Jerrel, Rayshawn, Phillip, Carlton Jr., Nigel and Jonah.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, in the chapel of Wheeler home with Chief Apostle Michael Hope officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20
