Sheriff's office hosts motorcycle ride Sat.

The Newton County Sheriff's Office is hosting its 14th annual Toy Run Motorcycle Ride at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Covington Kmart.

Registration will take place in Kmart parking lot beginning at 9 a.m ; the cost to particiapte is $20 and one new toy per bike. There is no extra charge for riders. The ride will begin at 10:30 a.m.; riders will be escorted by deputies throughout Newton County and will end at The Church At Covington, where lunch will be served to the riders.

"The area businesses have been very generous," said Cpl. Wade Freeman. "We have now collected approximately $1,500 in door prizes to be given away and we expect a few more. There will be free coffee and we will be selling biscuits before the ride. There will also be tee shirts for sale. You don't have to ride a motorcycle to participate. Anyone is welcome to stop by and donate toys or money, or you can just come and hangout.

"Saturday is a big day. This is the fundraiser to provide Christmas for local children. We are working with The Salvation Army and their Angel Tree program this year, and the proceeds from this event will go to help this cause."
