Douglas diagnosed with treatable cancer

District 1 County Commissioner Elect John Douglas has been diagnosed with treatable, Stage 1 prostate cancer.
"In September of this year, I underwent a routine physical exam. Blood work done at that time revealed a slightly elevated PSA number that my doctor recommended we follow up on. Several weeks later, I had a prostate biopsy and on Oct. 10, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 prostate cancer. I had two other doctors review the diagnosis, both confirmed the cancer.

On Nov. 7, my 59th birthday, I had a full body CT scan to determine if the cancer had spread. That procedure was conducted to determine what level of treatment would be needed. The results of the test came back clean of any spreading cancer, lymph nodes, organs, bones all clear.

After Thanksgiving, I will have the radiation seeds implanted in my prostate gland and begin 30-35 days of radiation treatment after Christmas. Two weeks later, I will have another PSA test and then regularly scheduled tests in the future.
My doctors are confident that we will remove the cancer and I will see little interruption of my daily routine. I continue to look forward to serving the people of the Commission District 1 beginning in January and there will be no change in that status."
