Mrs. Hattie Jewel Boswell was born on Dec. 15, 1942 in Hayston, to Sallie F.
Williams and Willie Davis Baynes. She was one of 10 children; sister Dorothy Mae Baynes and brother William James Baynes preceded her in death.

Mrs. Boswell was raised and educated in Newton County and attended the public schools. In 1975, she committed her life to the Lord and joined the 1st Covington Seventh Day Adventist Church in Covington under the leadership of Pastor Richard Henderson Sr.

She was married to Homer Boswell Jr. She was the proud mother of seven children; daughter Gwendolyn, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Boswell was employed with the Newton County Public Schools as a cook for more than 25 years. After retiring, she continued to work part time at Newton Medical Center as a custodian. She was hardworking, loving, kind and helpful to all in need. She had a great sense of humor and love for family gatherings. She was truly the backbone of the family.

Mrs. Boswell departed this earthly life on Nov. 6. She is survived by children Pastor Kenneth (Patricia) Boswell, Andrea (Alvin) Hutchins, Michael (Cheryl) Williams, Willie C. Boswell, Joyce Marie Boswell and Melissa Jewel Boswell; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; sisters Shirley Ann Brown, Diane Baynes, Viola Baynes, Pauline Baynes and Paulette Baynes; brothers Jimmy Williams, Jessie Williams and Lonnie Baynes; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation at the funeral home is from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday Nov. 11.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie J. Boswell will beheld at noon, Monday, Nov. 12, at Grace United Methodist Church in Covington. Rev. Matt Murphy, pastor; Eulogist, Pastor William L. Winston. Assisted by others. Remains will lie instate at 11 a.m. There will be no viewing during the hour of service. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park.

Cortege will assemble Monday at 9192 Carr Circle at 11 a.m. at Young Funeral Home, Covington.
