Maddox takes BOC District 5 seat

Republican Levie Maddox beat Democrat Marcello Banes for the open District 5 Board of Commissioners seat Tuesday night, winning by a margin of 5,352 votes to 3,403.

"For me, again it's an incredibly humbling experience and journey we've been on. My entire family and especially me feel very blessed to have been voted in by the good citizens of the county," Maddox said. "My goal is to represent the people who voted for me and to represent the people who did not vote for me.

"I certainly take my hat off to any and all candidates who put their name up for any position this year, because it takes courage."

Maddox, 40, was born and has lived his whole life in Newton County. He graduated from Newton County High School in 1990. He then earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Georgia College.

Banes, 35, has lived in the county for the past 12 years and formed TPC Cleaning Services in 1995. He graduated from Newton County High School and took college business courses at Middle Georgia College and DeKalb Technical College.
