Davis wins re-election for coroner

Newton County voters have spoken, and Tommy Davis has been elected as coroner once again. Republican Davis had 21,675 votes to Democrat Robert L. Bradley's 19,589.

"I look forward to serving four more years for the citizens of Newton County," Davis said at the Board of Elections. "It is an honor to serve as their county coroner. The trust and confidence they put in me will increase my dedication and commitment to them and the job I do."

When asked why he believed the citizens chose him over Bradley, Davis said "The community has shown that over 10 years of experience in the coroner's office and four years as the coroner, they know I have both the knowledge and experience and that they can place their confidence in me 100 percent."

Davis has been in the funeral business for nearly 30 years, serving as deputy coroner since 2003 and coroner since 2009. He also owns and operates J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home. Davis graduated from Lithonia High School and then went on to DeKalb Community College and Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science.
