Sheriff Brown confirms bid for re-election

Newton County Sheriff Ezell Brown has officially announced his plans to run for a second term.

In a press release Brown said the theme of his second campaign is "Continuing to Work Together."

Brown said that in his first campaign he promised several things and that he has made good on all but one, and that one he is still fighting for. According to his press release he has bridged the gap between the sheriff's office and all members of the community, revitalized community watches, opened doors for better communication within the community and participated in networking opportunities aimed at keeping crime down. Additionally, he pledged to win the war against the "big three - sex, drugs and violence," this of which he says he is "still fighting."

As a department he said the NCSO has enhanced customer service/community relations, became a part of the American Jail Association, established a specialized criminal investigations division, implemented a crime analysis/action report and broadened community outreach activities. He said they are still working to become a state-certified agency and receive national departmental certification.

"During my administration, we have continuously assessed our office's progress in achieving those initial goals," Brown said in the release. "I take great pride in sharing that each year, we had added additional goals. These goals and those achievements form the foundation for my 2012 platform."
