Man's body found in Baldwin County

A 30-year-old Covington man was found dead in Baldwin County early Wednesday morning and his death is being investigated as a homicide.

Travin Montez Davis, also known as Punch, was found around 7:15 a.m. by a resident of a secluded, quiet residential neighborhood, according to Baldwin County Sheriff's Captain Brad King, who said he believed Davis' body had been dumped there very late the night before or very early Wednesday morning. When the resident found him, she called 911.

"Preliminary forensics certainly suggests the location in Baldwin County is merely a dump site," King said. "There was no physical evidence other than the body."

A person of interest was arrested on outstanding traffic warrant early Wednesday in Newton County. Investigators also impounded a vehicle they believe Davis was in on the night he was killed.

Davis was taken to the crime lab in Macon for an autopsy. His cause of death was two gunshot wounds to the chest.

Although this is not currently a case being investigated by the Newton County Sheriff's Office, 1st Lt. Mark Mitchell said Thursday that they have been assisting Baldwin County in their investigation. Currently it is believed Davis was killed in Baldwin. Should it turn out investigators find he was killed in Newton County, the case will be turned over to them.
