Spires Interiors & Gifts is hosting a promotion for the rest of the October in an effort to help the nearly bare Community Food Pantry, 7125 Turner Lake Circle SW, in Covington.

The gift shop on the square is offering a 10 percent discount to any customer who brings in 10 or more nonperishable food items until Oct. 31.

"We're very community-minded. Anything we can do to help the community, we strive to do," said manager Linda Richardson. "When we read in the paper that (the pantry was) very low, we thought this was a great way to help customers by giving them a percentage off and bulk up the food pantry, especially with the holidays coming up."
So far, about 20 customers have participated in the promotion. Spires Interiors is owned by Denise Spires.
