Called to Teach

I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit.
~ John Steinbeck

While Cline already received his honor, another notable person is set to have her special celebration today.

Jani Roberts retired this summer after spending 40 years of her life teaching children in Christian schools in Newton County.

For those four decades, Roberts devoted her life to inspiring children to learn, not only about school subjects but about the right way to live and treat others. In her story, which appeared in Friday's edition and can also be read on CovNews.com, she said teaching was a calling, not a job. Some divine guidance surely helped Roberts navigate classrooms full of children for as long as she did.

If your life has been touched by the special goodness of Mrs. Roberts, you can attend an open reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Belmont Baptist Church in Conyers.

Maybe you'll be able to pick up some sage advice from her even after retirement.

As Roberts told our reporter, "The blessings of teaching do not come in a pay check. It comes in the heart and nobody can buy what it actually does when you are a teacher."
