Mrs. Ida K. Davis

Mrs. Ida K. Davis, 96, of Covington passed away October 2, 2012 at Riverside Nursing Home.  She was born March 16, 1916 in Milen, Georgia to the late George and Bonnie Hall Kent.  Mrs. Davis was a retired school teacher who taught for 35 years and a large part of her career was here in Covington, first teaching at the old Covington School and then at Ficquett Elementary School until her retirement.  She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Covington becoming a member when she moved to Covington in the 1940’s while her late husband Mark Lawson Davis, Sr. was in Japan during World War II.  Mrs. Davis was a member of many organizations throughout her life and had many hobbies; she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she belonged to a bridge club, she was an avid gardener, growing both flowers and vegetables, she enjoyed needle point and possibly her favorite hobby turn into a career of such painting china which she sold and gave away to many Covington residents and friends.

 

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Mark and Saralyn Davis of Cornelia, her grandchildren; Lawson Davis of Hoschton and T.J. Davis of Covington and one great grandson Mason Davis of Hoschton.  She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Rex and Vern Kent of Warner Robins and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other family and close friends.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Davis will be held at 11 O’clock Friday October 5, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Covington with her remains being placed in state at 10:30am. Reverend Jack Wilson and Reverend Len Strozier will officiate.  Interment will follow at Covington City Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home from 6pm until 8pm on Thursday, October 4, 2012.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Covington Building Fund.  J.C.
