911 center invites you to comment

The Newton-Covington 911 Communications Center wants to hear the public's comments on their services.

According to a news release from the Newton-Covington 911 Communications Center director Mike Smith, a group of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies examined the center's policies and procedures, management, operations and support services on Monday. The purpose of the examination was to verify that the center met the commissions' standards to gain accreditation for public safety.

Smith said today the public is invited to comment on the services provided by the 911 center. People from the community can call the assessment team at (678) 342-8792 between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and give comments not to exceed 10 minutes.

The public can also comment by mail by writing to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. at 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155.

Smith said the public's comments are welcomed because it helps the center provide the best services to the community. He said it's a time for anyone to call and give good or bad comments about the center.

"It's important to the citizens because it gives them assurance that they've got a 911 center that's meeting international standards so that they're getting the highest quality of services," he said.

The center received their first accreditation from CALEA in 2006. Smith said an accreditation last for three years. According to the release, The Covington-Newton County 911 Communications Center has to comply with 218 applicable standards in order to maintain its accredited status.
