Although the annual Mister and Miss Covington Pageant is only in its third year, but it's already becoming a staple event in Newton County as the pageant continues to draw in more contestants each year.

This year's pageant, which was held at Eastside High School on Aug. 14, featured 70 contestants from babies to teens. The event has added around 15 additional contestants each year, according to Crissy Alter pageant director.

This year's theme was "Back to School" where contestants not only created creative themed outfits, but also collected school items to donate.

"The creativity on the back to school items was amazing," said Alter. "The boys and girls really outdid themselves."
