Mrs. Mary Rachels died Aug. 1. The daughter of Walter H. and Sally Cox, she was born in Jefferson County. For the 24 years she lived in Covington, she was a member of the Sergeant Newton DAR chapter and the First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Rachels enjoyed walking with Nell Nixon and working with ceramics at Turner Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband Wesley Rachels.

Surviving are her children George and Sue Rachels of Wadley, Sally and Ernest Archer of Rockhill, S.C., Bobby Grover of Martinez, Clark Rachels of Hapeville; 10 grandchildren; sister Lula Vaughn Smith Rachels; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. tomorrow, Aug. 4, at Coleman Chapel Methodist Church in Wadley. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 3, at Smith Funeral Home, Wadley.
