Democratic dinner to be held Saturday

The Newton and Rockdale County Democratic Parties will host the inaugural Jefferson-Jackson Dinner at 6 p.m. at the Georgia Piedmont Technical College on Saturday, Aug. 4.

State representative Stacey Abrams and Congressman John Lewis will speak at the event.

From 6 to 7 p.m., the silent auction will take place. Then, at 7 p.m., the dinner program will start.

Civic engagement, lifetime achievement and the community service awards will be given in the program, and Congressman Lewis will have a book signing of his book Across That Bridge: Life Lessons and a Vision for Change.

"This is a fundraising event. We are raising money for our Democratic candidates' elections in November," Sarah Todd, chairman of the Newton County Democratic Party said.
Tickets for the dinner can be purchased online at newtongeorgiadems.org for $50.
