Davis seeks re-election as coroner

/

Tommy Davis

For almost three decades, Tommy Davis has been in the funeral business, as deputy coroner since 2003 and coroner since 2009. The 44-year-old is running once again, all because of his love for Newton County.

"This is a position that I truly enjoy serving in and serving the people of Newton County," he said. "I am truly devoted and dedicated to the position. I work hard every day to ensure that the people of Newton County are represented professionally."

Not only does Davis serve as coroner of the county, he also owns and operates J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home. He hopes to "continue to provide the people of Newton County with a professional coroner's office, one dedicated and committed to the service and devoted to Newton County."

Davis graduated from Lithonia High School and then went on to DeKalb Community College and Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science. He and his family are members of the First Baptist Church of Covington; Davis is also a member of the Rotary Club, Covington Elks Lodge and is a Mason.

When asked, Davis said he had never been arrested or convicted of a crime, nor does he have any foreclosures, bankruptcies or financial issues that voters should know about.

He and his wife Mary Evelyn Davis have been married for 24 years. He has three daughters, Ashley McIntosh and her husband Parks, Amber Davis and Shelby Davis and one granddaughter, Charlie Elizabeth McIntosh.

"I am asking the people of Newton County to re-elect me as their coroner so I may continue to serve them," said Davis. "With almost 10 years of service to the citizens of Newton County, I have proven to be dedicated to Newton County and have served with pride in my job as their coroner and will always keep the Office of Coroner a professional organization, trained and trustworthy, one that the citizens can be proud of."

Davis can be contacted on his cell phone at (404) 304-9607 or by email at newtoncountycoroner@gmail.com.
