Early Voting

After registering, early voting for the primary will take place from July 9 through July 27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the board of elections, located at the Newton County Administration Building, 1113 Usher St., Covington.

However, there have been a couple of changes to early voting this year, said board of elections Assistant Director Angela Mantle.

Early voting will be available Saturday, July 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in an effort to making voting more accessible for those who work during the week, particularly those working outside the county.

In addition, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 23 through July 27 early voting will be available at the Porter Memorial Branch Library, 6191 Ga. Highway 212, Covington. The satellite site is designed to make access easier for residents in western Newton County, which is one of the county’s most populated areas.

Two polling places change

The polling locations for two Newton County voting precincts have changed.

The Oxford precinct will be moved from the Oxford Community Center to Oxford City Hall, 110 West Clark St., and the Stansells precinct will be moved from Believer’s Fellowship on Christian Circle to Voice of Pentecost, 4648 Salem Road.

The changes were approved by the U.S. Department of Justice as required, Mantle said.

Transportation to the polls

The Newton County Citizens for Better Government are offering to take any citizens who need transportation to the polls. Residents can call (678)-712-9927 and should be ready to give their address, name of their subdivision and voting precinct so the driver can schedule rides efficiently.
