Officer rescues kids from flooded creek

ATLANTA (AP) — An Atlanta police officer waded through a flooded creek to rescue three children and an adult from a wooded area.

Atlanta police say Officer Bradley Irwin responded to the area on the city's northwest side around 8 p.m. The group had been out hunting tadpoles when a lightning storm moved in, trapping them in the woods.

Police said that after nearly 30 minutes of searching, Irwin heard the children yelling but the only way to reach them was through the creek. So he waded through waters above waist deep and then led the group back across the water and through thick brush out of the woods.

Police say Irwin hit his head on a branch and cut his head, but no serious injuries were reported.
