Official learns hurricane procedures

Around 800 personnel are participating in the Georgia Emergency Management Agency's statewide, biannual full scale hurricane exercise this week which simulates three plans for hurricane evacuation and re-entry.

Melissa Cummings of the Department of Natural Resources office in Social Circle is participating in the exercise as an observer.

Observers are not active participant, but observe "for best practices that they can take back to their organization," said Lisa Janak Newman, public information officer for the agency.

The exercises took place Monday, Tuesday and today at locations in the Atlanta and the Savannah areas. The exercise simulated pre-land fall, post landfall and demobilization activities.
