Police search for one in drug bust

Officers from the Porterdale Police Department apprehended one person and are still searching for another after a drug arrest Tuesday evening.

Officers were checking a suspicious vehicle in the area of Palmetto and Hazel streets. When they attempted to stop the car, several people ran from the vehicle and fled. Officers gave chase and were able to apprehend one man. Prior to being taken into custody he allegedly threw what officers believe were drugs down in the area.

The man arrested had a large amount of cash on him. PPD Investigator Doug Clifton and Lt. Jason Cripps were able to determine that the money had, at some point, been in contact with narcotics, thanks to the help of K-9 officer Bo, the PPD's narcotics K-9. Because of this, the PPD will be able to seize the money under astate law that allows law enforcement officials to seize money associated with drug activity and use it to fight the war on drugs.

The PPD is still searching for the man who fled the area.
He is described as a white male, roughly 5-foot-8-inches tall, with brown hair and a stocky build. Anyone with information is asked to contact the PPD at (770) 786-2226 or through email at crimetip@cityofporterdale.com. All tips can be given anonymously.

"With the partnership of the Newton County Sheriff's Office and officers from the Porterdale Police, we were able to remove drugs from the street," said Clifton in a press release.

"The Porterdale Police continue to make progress in combating crime and drugs in Porterdale and last month, officers made over 40 arrests in the city."
