Following the leaders

The Turner Lake Complex once again played host Friday to a local gathering of the annual Chick-fil-A Leadercast, a gathering of inspirational leaders in Atlanta, which is simulcast around the county.

The Newton County Recreation Commission is a local simulcast location and sells tickets every year to raise money for the Miracle League of Newton County Project, a special needs-friendly baseball field that will be built at City Pond Park. Around 145 business owners, employees and students attended this year's event.

This year's speakers included Soledad O'Brien, Urban Meyer, Angela Ahrendts, Tim Tebow, Andy Stanley, Marcus Buckingham, Patrick Lencioni, John Maxwell, Roland Fryer and Sheena Iyengar.

"The choices you make define the leader you become. And the choices you make are not just about you. They're about the positive impact you can have on your organization, your community and beyond," read an online flier for the event. "Our world needs everyday leaders who will choose to make it a better place. That's what Chick-fil-A Leadercast 2012 is all about."

Local Chick-fil-A owner Chris Giella partnered with the recreation commission on the Leadercast event for the third straight year.

Construction on the Miracle League complex is expected to begin in the fall, and the $2 million project will have two grass ballfields, one Miracle League artificial turf ballfield and a special needs playground.
