Hosting Harlem

Eastside has home-field advantage in first round

If Eastside has the success in May that it did in April, the Eagles' baseball team has a good shot at winning a state title.

The Eagles, which didn't lose in the month of April, ride a nine game winning streak into the AAA state playoffs. Eastside opens the playoffs by hosting Harlem in a best-of-three series in the first round starting today. The Bulldogs (18-7) come to Eastside as the third seed from Region 3-AAA after topping Westside, Augusta 5-4 to cap four wins in their last five games.

Harlem, which reached the second round of the state playoffs a year ago, returns to the state tournament this year behind its pitching, which has allowed just 2.8 runs per game.

Eastside will look to counter that with its potent offense which has scored more than 10 runs 11 times and has won 14 of its last 15. The Eagles allowed 4.5 runs per game this season, but have scored 9.8 on average. The Eagles and Harlem open the playoffs today starting at 4 p.m. with the second game scheduled to follow at 6:30 p.m.
The rubber game will take place Saturday at 4 p.m. if necessary.
