Lady Eagles soccer 2nd in Region 4-AAA

The Eastside girls' soccer team earned sole possession of second place in Region 4-AAA in dominating fashion, beating Jackson 5-0 on Tuesday night.

Eastside's Lady Eagles (11-6-1) completed their Region 4-AAA schedule Tuesday night in Jackson with a 5-0 victory over the Lady Red Devils. The win gave Eastside (11-6-1) its best region record in school history at 7-1.

The Lady Eagles can also lay claim to the best defense in 4-AAA matchups, allowing only six goals against in eight region games. Region champion Eagles Landing allowed eight goals in eight matches and third place Spalding allowed 10.

Six of Eastside's seven region wins were by shutout and they held high-powered Spalding to one goal.

Tuesday, Jackson started with a flurry, forcing Eastside keeper Carly Farrow to make two of her four saves in the first two minutes of play. Although Eastside outshot the Lady Red Devils 16-4 in the first half, it took over 18 minutes for the Lady Eagles to find the back of the net. Amber Lafond netted the game winner from the top of the eighteen off an assist from Alli Coberth.

Due to outstanding play from the Jackson keeper, the score would remain 1-0 at the half.

After a change at keeper for the Lady Red Devils, the second half was a different story. Sarah Gaddis would make it 2-0 less than two minutes into the half when she fired a hard shot that bounced off the new Red Devil keeper, back off of Gaddis, over the keeper's head and into the goal.

Five minutes later Kari Dylong sent a long thru ball on a free kick from the back. Emily House outran everyone, touched it twice and then scored to make it 3-0. Lafond would add her second goal with 25:24 left to play with a goal from the left side to stretch the lead to 4-0.

Dylong sent another long ball that forced the Jackson keeper into a mistake when she came out of the eighteen yard box to scoop up the ball, setting up a free kick for the Lady Eagles.

House would add the final goal of the night with 20:49 remaining by quickly kicking the ball into the net from just outside the eighteen yard box before the Lady Red Devils keeper and defense could set.

The Lady Eagles went 9-1-1 in their final 11 regular season games after a 2-5 start. Eastside will play Westside in the 1st Round of the State Playoffs on May 4 at 6 p.m. in Covington.
