Local churches join in prayer

Several Newton County churches are participating in a prayer conference Friday and Saturday designed to unite the local faith community in praying for spiritual awakening.

"Simply put, the focus is trying to get all the faith community together to pray for spiritual awakening," said Charles Reynolds, church administrator at First Baptist Church. "We're looking for spiritual awakening in Newton County, Georgia and across the U.S.; it's already started in Louisiana. We're saying that if the faith community works together and seeks God's will, he can provide healing."

The prayer conference will cost $10 per person, which includes two books written by Ken Hemphill, who will lead the prayer conference.

The conferences are from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at First Baptist Church. Tickets are available at First Baptist Church or by registering online at firstbaptistcovington.com.

Reynolds said Hemphill will teach but much of the time will be devoted to practical prayer exercises.
The idea is to get people to look for "kingdom moments" in their lives, moments that further the kingdom of God, according to notes from Hemphill.
