Blu Maxx headlines local benefit concert

Covington resident Scott Anglin has been hospitalized since suffering a traumatic brain injury Nov. 27 when he hit a deer with his motorcycle on Elks Club Road and was ejected.

The local contractor and painter has been improving steadily at Atlanta Medical Center, recognizing familiar faces and experiencing less confusion this past week, but friend Jeff Hay said Anglin, 48, still has a long way to go.

To help the Anglin family pay mounting medical bills, Hay's band Blu Maxx, fellow local band Southern Steel, with lead vocalist Adam Gratham, and other artists are hosting a benefit concert at 9 p.m., Friday at the Ozone Bar and Grill, 8185 Old City Pond Road, Covington. Doors will open at 7 p.m.

Proceeds from the $10 cover charge will go to Anglin's family; any other donations are welcomed.

"He still has a long way to go, and we, his friends, didn't know what to do. We felt for the family, felt for his situation, but we were helpless as far as what to do to help him," so they set up the concert, Hay said.

"The event is open to the public and anyone who can appreciate the fact that this situation can bring on financial difficulty for a family," Hay said. "It's also an opportunity for friends to have an outlet and get together, instead of feeling like our hands are tied in this matter.".

The organizers are also hoping to do a cash raffle, with half of the proceeds going to the Anglin family and the other half going to the raffle winner.

There will also be a notepad for friends to sign and write notes to Anglin, which will be presented to Anglin in the hospital, along with a scrapbook of photos taken by a photographer.
