Search is on for three armed robbers

Authorities with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office are searching for three armed robbers.

One man is wanted for a robbery at Double Dips in Oxford. According to NCSO Lt. Keith Crum, the employees at the restaurant were closing when a black male entered through the back door, brandishing a handgun.

The man demanded money and took cash and receipts from the register and personal items (purses, wallets) from the employees before fleeing on foot out the back door.

A K-9 officer was brought in but was unable to find a good track.

The man is described as dark-skinned, between 5-foot-9-inches and 5-foot-11-inches tall, weighing around 160 lbs. He was wearing sweat pants and a long-sleeved shirt.

Another armed robbery occurred this week, this one on Brown Bridge Road at the Shell Food Mart.

The clerk was closing the store for the night and had gone outside to lock the ice chest when she was approached by two black males, at least one of whom had a handgun. The men forced her back into the store, threatened to kill her and locked her in the restroom. She didn’t come out until she was sure they were gone.

Missing was money from the register, cigarettes and lottery tickets. A K-9 officer tracked the robbers toward Rockdale County before loosing the scent.

Both are described as black males. One of them stands roughly 5-feet-10-inches tall and is younger in age with a deep voice, according to the victim’s statement.

Anyone with information on either of these armed robberies is asked to contact the NCSO at (678) 625-1400 or online at All tips can be given anonymously.
